Lepakshi

Hello Travelers,

This blog is about my trip to Lepakshi in Andhra Pradesh which is 130 kms from Bangalore. I rode my bike to Lepakshi. The original idea was to visit Veerapuram bird sanctuary where birds like Painted Storks and Pelicans from Siberia come and nest, breed and leave to return back during warmer months again. It is similar to Kokkarebelluru in Karnataka.

So I started at 8 AM and rode into Chikkaballapura town to have my breakfast. From there I started towards Veerapuram which is like 7 kms before Lepakshi. I was totally disappointed when I did not see any birds. Felt very sad as my agenda for the day did not accomplish. Next, I proceeded towards Lepakshi. This was my fourth visit to Lepakshi. The first being in 2010.

Here is the link to location: https://goo.gl/maps/Bzu4HgEV8FuHXrqZ8

There are 3 main places of attractions one can see in Lepakshi - Veerabhadra Temple, Nandi Statue and Jatayu park. The places are well marked.

Jatayu Park: Just as you enter Lepakshi you see this place on left side. The entry fee is 10 INR per person. One can see an Eagle statue on top of a small hill. You need to climb a few steps, no difficulty to get to the top. The view is great and can see Nandi statue and the Temple from Top. Here are some pics.

Nandi Statue: The statue is on the right side as you enter Lepakshi. The bull is carved from one single stone. Here are some pics.

Veerabhadra Temple: The history of the temple according to sources says it was built by non other than the great architect of those times - Amara Shilpi Jakanacharya. Yes, Jakanacharya had also built Belur and Halebeedu temples. Here are some pics.

So that concluded my trip and I started back to Bangalore by 1 PM. A good short trip I must say for me.

Travellers as Family or Couple can plan and stay for some more time and not to hurry. There is a hotel run by AP tourism named Hotel Haritha. You can have Lunch there. Food is Ok.

One can club Kadiri along with Lepakshi which has famous Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple. Usually little crowded on Saturdays. So plan accordingly.

See you in my next blog. Bye...:)
